AutoCAD — Technical Drawings: Open, Measure and Annotate in Three Hours

A drawing arrives from the design office or the architect. A dimension needs checking, a piece of equipment needs locating and a comment needs to be passed back. Without the ability to handle the file, the drawing is printed, marked up in pencil and scanned again. The round trip takes several days for a simple question and the comment is often lost along the way.

This short three-hour virtual format has a single aim: becoming self-sufficient when reviewing a drawing. Opening the file, navigating within the drawing, showing or hiding layers, measuring a distance, then adding a note or a marker and returning the annotated drawing in a format every recipient can read.

Finding your way around a drawing you receive

  • Opening the file and an overview of the interface
  • Zoom, pan and saved views
  • Drawing structure and layer organisation
  • Showing and hiding layers
  • Identifying the scale and the title block

2Measuring and Reading

Obtaining the right information

  • Distance and area measurement tools
  • Reading existing dimensions
  • Snapping to key points
  • Searching for an element or a text string within the drawing
  • Consistency check between the dimension shown and the dimension measured

3Annotating and Sending

Passing a comment back

  • Adding text and annotation markers
  • Lines, arrows and revision clouds
  • Dedicated annotation layer
  • Printing and exporting to a readable format
  • Sending comments and tracking them

Practical details

Before the programme
Online positioning questionnaire. Your development objectives are shared with the trainer, who tailors the practical case studies to your context.
Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
