Description

Chart and Technical Analysis: Reading Charts, Spotting Patterns and Deciding

Build a structured chart-reading method to position a trend and identify turning points

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Reading a price chart without a method leads to seeing patterns everywhere and making decisions driven by the most recent move observed. Market professionals need a stable reading framework that makes it possible to position a trend, identify the zones where it is decided and express a reasoned view.

Two days to build that framework: chart construction and chart types, trend and support identification, classic chart patterns, then the most commonly used technical indicators. This session lays the foundations that the advanced techniques module will extend through signal combination and risk management.

Learning objectives

  • Build and configure the main types of price charts
  • Identify a trend and define its support and resistance zones
  • Recognise continuation and reversal chart patterns
  • Interpret the most commonly used technical indicators
  • Formulate a reasoned chart-based view on an instrument

What makes this programme different

Chart reading is practised on live charts from the first half-day
Every pattern studied is first sought out, then challenged on historical series
Participants write a view on an instrument of their choice and present it to the group
