Description
Environmental Management: Structuring, Steering and Improving the System
An environmental management system that lives in a binder and never on the shop floor
- 1 day — 7 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
Many environmental initiatives stop at the document stage. The environmental review was carried out once, procedures exist, but field teams do not know which impacts their workstation generates or how to respond to a spill. Findings raised during audits repeat year after year without the root cause ever being addressed.
This one-day introduction lays the foundations of a usable environmental management system: identifying aspects and impacts, monitoring applicable obligations, building an action programme, applying operational control at the workstation and preparing for emergency situations. Examples are drawn from industrial and office-based sites in the UAE.
Learning objectives
- Identify the environmental aspects of an activity and rank their impacts
- Organise monitoring of the environmental obligations applicable to the site
- Build an environmental action programme with owners and deadlines
- Translate operational control into instructions that can be used at the workstation
- Prepare responses to environmental emergency situations
- Measure environmental performance and feed the management review
