Description

Financial Calculations: Mastering Interest, Discounting and Offer Comparison

Regain confidence with the interest and discounting calculations used every day in branch

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

An amortisation schedule misread, a headline rate confused with an effective rate, two offers compared on the monthly instalment alone: financial calculation errors cost credibility in front of the client, and sometimes far more. Many staff rely on tools that produce a figure without being able to rebuild or explain it.

Two hours to revisit the underlying mechanics: simple and compound interest, discounting, building a repayment schedule and comparing financing offers on a like-for-like basis. The short format targets autonomy on everyday calculations and the ability to explain a figure to the client.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish simple interest from compound interest
  • Calculate the future value and present value of a cash flow
  • Build a repayment schedule
  • Explain the gap between a nominal rate and an effective rate
  • Compare two financing offers on a consistent basis
