Description
Generative AI in Capital Markets: Identifying Use Cases and Managing Risk
Identify realistic generative AI use cases across capital markets roles and understand their limits
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
Market operations teams are seeing generative AI tools arrive without any clear view of what to expect from them. Demonstrations are impressive, yet a back office processes settlement instructions and a middle office justifies valuation differences. In those environments, an answer that looks plausible but is wrong carries a real cost. Without shared reference points, usage spreads in a scattered and uncontrolled way.
This short format provides the essentials. Participants understand how these models work and where they fall short, identify the back and middle office tasks where the contribution is genuine, learn to write precise instructions and then verify outputs in line with confidentiality requirements.
Learning objectives
- Explain in general terms how a generative AI model works and where its limits lie
- Identify capital markets tasks that may genuinely benefit from it
- Write precise instructions to obtain a usable output
- Verify an AI output before using it within a process
- Apply confidentiality rules to the data being handled
- Position the role of control functions in governing these use cases
What makes this programme different
Programme
1Understanding generative models
Knowing what the machine actually produces
- How text generation works and the notion of context
- Where errors come from and why answers can be plausible but wrong
- Difference between a consumer tool and a solution governed by the institution
- What happens to the data submitted to the model
2Use cases in capital markets roles
Selecting the tasks that lend themselves to it
- Summarising market documents and internal notes
- Support in drafting operating procedures
- Explaining differences and preparing supporting evidence
- Assistance in handling breaks and client queries
- Tasks to rule out because of the risk of error
3Writing instructions and applying controls
Obtain, then verify
- Structure of a precise and contextualised instruction
- Iteration and rephrasing when the output is insufficient
- Verification method and cross-checking of sources
- Confidentiality of market data and client data
- Internal rules and the role of control functions
Who is it for
Back and middle office staff, operational team leaders and control function professionals in capital markets banking.
