Description

Google Sheets — Advanced Online Spreadsheets: Consolidate, Analyse and Automate Your Tables

Move from basic formulas to lookup functions, pivot tables and automated data processing

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Files keep growing and formulas pile up. Reconciling two tables is still done by eye or by copy-paste. Monthly summaries are rebuilt by hand every time. Data exported from another system arrives poorly structured, and cleaning it up ends up taking longer than the analysis itself.

These 14 hours are designed for users who are already comfortable with simple formulas. Participants work on conditional and lookup functions, then on pivot tables. They consolidate several sources into a single file and automate repetitive processing using dedicated functions.

Learning objectives

  • Write nested conditional formulas and verify their results
  • Reconcile two tables using lookup functions
  • Build a pivot table and keep it up to date
  • Consolidate data from several sheets or files
  • Clean an extracted data set before using it
  • Automate repetitive processing using dedicated functions

What makes this programme different

Exercises are based on deliberately imperfect data extracts
Each function is compared with the manual method it replaces
A monthly dashboard is built end to end over the two days

Programme

1Conditional Formulas and Text Functions

Writing calculations that withstand exceptions

  • Simple and nested conditions
  • Conditional counting and summing functions
  • Handling text strings and dates
  • Checking results and managing errors

2Reconciling and Consolidating Data

Making several tables work together

  • Lookup functions and matching between tables
  • Linking several sheets within the same file
  • Importing data from another file
  • Checking duplicates and missing values

3Analysing with Pivot Tables

Summarising without rewriting formulas

  • Preparing a usable database
  • Building a pivot table
  • Grouping, filters and calculated fields
  • Related charts and updating source data

4Automating and Securing Your Files

Saving time on repetitive processing

  • Dynamic sorting and filtering functions
  • Drop-down lists and data validation
  • Protecting calculation areas and tracking changes
  • A dashboard that updates without manual intervention

Who is it for

Regular users of online spreadsheets responsible for figure-based tracking, data reconciliation or periodic reporting.

Prerequisites

Ability to enter data, write simple formulas and format a table.
