Description

Google Sheets — Online Spreadsheets: Enter, Calculate and Share Your First Tables

Build accurate, readable tables in a shared spreadsheet without going back to the email attachment

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Tables circulate as email attachments and everyone works on a different version. Totals are typed in by hand and become wrong as soon as a line changes. Formatting is lost from one send to the next and no one knows which copy is authoritative. The spreadsheet is still used as a sheet of squared paper.

These 14 hours lay the foundations of working in an online spreadsheet. Participants build calculated sheets that are properly formatted and shared with controlled access rights. They write simple formulas, sort and filter their data, then produce a first readable chart.

Learning objectives

  • Create a spreadsheet file and organise its tabs
  • Enter data and apply the formats suited to its nature
  • Write simple calculation formulas and copy a formula across
  • Sort and filter a table to isolate a piece of information
  • Build a readable chart from a table
  • Share a file while choosing the access rights granted

What makes this programme different

The running case study is a budget tracker built and then enriched throughout the two days
Every formula is written by the participant before being reviewed collectively
Participants work together on the same file to test sharing rights in practice
