In manufacturing, management control comes up against shop-floor reality. Declared times do not match actual times, scrap is not fully reported and work in progress distorts the margin displayed. Product cost figures are then contested by production teams.

Two days to establish the core methods of industrial management control: building product costs, setting workshop budgets and analysing material and labour variances. This entry-level programme covers the fundamental tools, while advanced modules address industrial performance management.

Costing the production year ahead

  • Build the production budget from sales forecasts
  • Value planned consumption and planned hours
  • Define standard costs and the conditions for updating them
  • Align workshop budgets with the procurement budget

4Variance Analysis and Reporting

Explaining why actuals differ from plan

  • Break down material variance into price effect and quantity effect
  • Analyse labour and activity variances
  • Identify the operational causes behind each variance
  • Present results in production review meetings

Teaching methods

Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.

One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
