Description

International Procurement: Overseas Sourcing, Securing Flows and Landed Cost

Buy from overseas suppliers without watching the saving disappear into logistics and disruption

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The price quoted by a distant supplier looks unbeatable. Then come freight, customs duties, insurance, lead times that keep stretching and non-conforming batches that have to be returned to the other side of the world. The announced saving melts away, and the relationship has to be managed remotely, in another language and another time zone.

Two days to treat international procurement as a complete decision: assessing the full landed cost, selecting delivery and payment terms, organising pre-shipment quality control and securing the relationship with a distant supplier. The programme is designed for buyers who are already confident with local sourcing.

Learning objectives

  • Assess the full landed cost of an imported purchase
  • Select delivery terms aligned with the intended sharing of risk
  • Secure payment and currency exposure on an international transaction
  • Organise pre-shipment quality control
  • Manage a remote and cross-cultural supplier relationship

What makes this programme different

The landed cost is calculated on a real purchase brought by the participant
Delivery terms are worked through across several transport scenarios
Pre-shipment control points are formalised in a monitoring plan
