Description

Managing a Knowledge-Sharing Community: Uniting Members, Moderating and Sustaining Exchanges

Keeping an internal or external community alive well beyond the first weeks of enthusiasm

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A community is easy to launch and quick to fade. Once the initial momentum passes, posts become rare, the same few voices speak up and everyone else watches without taking part. The community manager is left alone feeding a space that has gone quiet.

These two days focus on sustained community management: defining the purpose of the community, organising a content rhythm, encouraging contributions and handling tensions. Each participant builds the engagement plan for their own community.

Learning objectives

  • Define the purpose and ground rules of a community
  • Build an engagement rhythm and a content calendar
  • Encourage contributions from the quietest members
  • Moderate a tense exchange using an agreed procedure
  • Track community vitality through usage indicators
