Description

Multi-Year Capital Investment Plan: Building, Costing and Steering

Connecting the coming years' investment projects to a verified funding capacity

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Projects come up from business units without a common framework. Each department defends its own investment using its own assumptions, and decisions are taken in meetings without any consolidated view of funding. Schedule slippage is not anticipated, internally generated cash flow is overestimated and borrowing decisions are taken under pressure.

This one-day programme provides a structured method for building a multi-year investment plan. Participants learn to identify and rank projects, to cost their full lifecycle impact and operating effects, and then to build the multi-year funding schedule. They leave with a plan template and the indicators required to monitor its execution.

Learning objectives

  • Identify capital investment projects and rank them against explicit criteria
  • Cost the full lifecycle expense of an investment and its impact on operations
  • Build the multi-year funding plan and measure the balance achieved
  • Simulate the effect of schedule slippage on forecast cash position
  • Organise annual monitoring of the plan and its revision procedure

What makes this programme different

The plan is built step by step on a fully costed case, from project sheet to funding schedule
The impact of deferring a project is tested live on the model
A project sheet template and a plan template are completed during the day
