Description

Operational Risk: Incident Collection, Modelling and Framework Management

An incident database filled in out of habit and losses that keep recurring despite action plans

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Expert
  • Up to 6 participants

Operational risk is often managed by accumulation: an incident database that business lines complete without conviction, an annual risk map disconnected from actual losses, and action plans that close incidents without addressing their causes. The same failures resurface a few months later in another entity of the institution.

This one-day programme is designed for practitioners in post: quality of incident collection, risk mapping connected to actual losses, scenario analysis and estimation of extreme losses, early warning indicators and management of the overall framework. The exercises draw on reconstructed incidents and failure scenarios.

Learning objectives

  • Structure incident collection and improve the reliability of its quality
  • Build an operational risk map connected to recorded losses
  • Conduct a scenario analysis to estimate an extreme loss
  • Define relevant early warning indicators for each critical process
  • Analyse the root causes of an incident beyond its immediate handling
  • Report the operational risk profile to governance bodies

What makes this programme different

An incident is followed through from detection to root cause analysis
The risk map is tested against recorded losses to reveal its blind spots
A scenario analysis workshop run under expert panel conditions
