Photoshop for Beginners: Cut Out, Retouch and Correct Your Images

Correct, cut out and export your images without degrading the quality of the original file

Company visuals rarely arrive ready to use: photographs that are too dark, backgrounds to remove, formats to adapt for a website and then for print. Without a clear method, edits are applied directly to the image, the file becomes impossible to rework and the result varies from one visual to the next.

Three days to acquire a non-destructive working method, from opening the file through to export. Each participant works on their own images and leaves with reusable working files.

1Interface and File Management

Establishing non-destructive working foundations

  • Organising the workspace and useful shortcuts
  • Understanding resolution, image size and colour modes
  • Choosing save formats according to final use
  • Setting up a folder structure for working files

2Light and Colour Corrections

Rescuing an imperfect shot

  • Reading a histogram and correcting exposure
  • Adjusting contrast, brightness and white balance
  • Working on saturation without distorting tones
  • Applying corrections through adjustment layers

3Selections and Cut-Outs

Isolating a subject cleanly

  • Using quick selection tools and colour range
  • Refining an edge and handling hair or transparency
  • Working with layer masks
  • Placing a cut-out subject on a new background

4Retouching and Compositing

Cleaning up and recomposing an image

  • Removing dust and blemishes with the healing tools
  • Duplicating and cloning areas without visible repetition
  • Combining several images using layers and blending modes
  • Straightening, cropping and correcting perspective

5File Preparation and Delivery

Delivering the right file in the right format

  • Preparing a visual for web and for print
  • Managing colour profiles and safety margins
  • Adapting a visual into several formats
  • Automating repetitive tasks with actions and scripts

Practical details

Before the programme
Online positioning questionnaire. Your development objectives are shared with the trainer, who tailors the practical case studies to your context.
Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
