Description

Quality of Working Life Programme: Framing the Project, Engaging Stakeholders and Measuring Impact

Move beyond isolated initiatives and build an approach that acts on the work itself and on how it is organised

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Many organisations have launched wellbeing initiatives without achieving any lasting effect: scattered actions, a policy signed off but rarely followed through, stakeholders passing the subject back and forth, and indicators nobody reads. The difficulty is not the willingness to act but the ability to steer the approach over time.

Two days to structure a quality of working life and working conditions approach anchored in the actual content of the work: framing with executive management, alignment with employee consultation channels, choice of discussion forums, pilot initiatives and evaluation. This session is designed for those already steering the approach, not for those discovering the subject.

Learning objectives

  • Frame the approach with executive management and formalise the commitments expected
  • Align the approach with employee consultation channels and existing internal committees
  • Facilitate discussion forums on the work itself and make use of their outputs
  • Run a pilot initiative on a limited scope then decide whether to scale it up
  • Build an evaluation dashboard that the steering committee can genuinely use

What makes this programme different

Each participant works on their own live approach and leaves with a completed framing note
A real discussion forum on the work is facilitated during the session
The dashboard produced separates process indicators from impact indicators

Programme

1Framing the approach

Setting the conditions before launching any action

  • Initial diagnosis and review of the internal data already available
  • Articulating the issues at stake for management and for employees
  • Scope, governance and resources allocated
  • Drafting the framing note and the roadmap

2Engaging the stakeholders

Holding management, line managers and employee representatives together

  • Respective roles of executive management, employee representatives and health and safety functions
  • Alignment between formal consultation and the operational approach
  • The role of first-line managers in implementation
  • Internal communication at each stage of the approach

3Working on the work itself

Opening up discussion on what is genuinely going wrong

  • Principles and ground rules for discussion forums on the work
  • Selecting the topics and the participants
  • Facilitation, collection and processing of proposals
  • Feeding back to teams on the actions taken

4Piloting then evaluating

Testing on one scope before scaling up

  • Choosing the pilot scope and the conditions for success
  • Monitoring the pilot and making adjustments along the way
  • Building process indicators and impact indicators
  • Deciding whether to scale up, stop or restart
