Description
Renewable Energy Project Finance: Structuring, Modelling and Closing
Structure and close the financing of a solar or wind asset from development through to operations
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Intermediate
- Up to 6 participants
A renewable project is financed against its future cash flows rather than the balance sheet of its sponsor. Lenders examine the quality of the power purchase agreement, then the support or tariff regime, and finally the robustness of the construction contract. A weakness in any one of these contracts will block financing even where the resource itself is excellent.
This short-format programme focuses on renewable generation assets and their financing on a project basis. It differs from the session dedicated to energy transition projects in the broader sense by remaining centred on the structuring of a generation asset. You build and stress a simplified cash flow model.
Learning objectives
- Describe the legal and financial structure of a renewable generation project
- Analyse the bankability of the project's key contracts
- Build a simplified cash flow model and test its sensitivity
- Identify the ratios and security packages required by lenders
- Prepare the steps of financial close through to first drawdown
