Description

Site Safety: Structuring Prevention, Managing Co-Activity and Conducting Controls

Maintaining site safety well beyond the prevention plan signed at the start of the operation

  • 3 days — 21 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

On a construction site the prevention documents exist, yet site reality drifts away from them within the first week: contractors arriving unannounced, co-activity that was never anticipated, guardrails removed to save time. Supervisors are then forced to arbitrate between programme and safety under pressure.

Three days to regain control of the operation. The programme covers how prevention is organised before the site opens and how it is sustained during the works: risk analysis by phase, management of external contractors, field inspections and handling of non-conformities. All documents are produced using real site situations.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the obligations of each party involved in a site operation
  • Analyse risks by works phase and by co-activity situation
  • Draft a prevention plan that field teams can actually use
  • Manage external contractors from induction through to handover
  • Conduct safety inspections and address the gaps identified
  • Respond to an accident or a situation of serious and imminent danger

What makes this programme different

Risk analysis is carried out on a real site programme including its co-activity phases
A safety inspection is simulated from photographs of substandard site conditions
Prevention documents are drafted during the session then reviewed by the other participants

Programme

1Parties Involved and Responsibilities on an Operation

Who answers for what before the works begin

  • Distinguish the roles of the client
  • the design supervisor and the contractors
  • Position the safety coordination function within the course of the operation
  • Identify the documents expected according to the nature of the operation
  • Assess the consequences of a poorly formalised delegation

2Risk Analysis by Site Phase

Anticipating co-activity on the programme

  • Break the operation down into phases and work situations
  • Identify risks relating to falls
  • plant and equipment and buried or live services
  • Spot interfaces between contractors on the programme
  • Rank prevention measures by level of effectiveness

3Prevention Plan and Site Documentation

Written documents that teams actually use

  • Prepare and conduct the joint pre-works site inspection
  • Draft a prevention plan that is clear and workable
  • Align the prevention plan
  • the safety protocol and the hot work permit
  • Keep documents updated throughout the duration of the works

4Day-to-Day Supervision of Site Personnel

Enforcing standards without stopping the site

  • Organise the safety induction of newcomers to site
  • Verify certifications and equipment operating authorisations
  • Inspect common installations and collective protection measures
  • Address a non-compliant operative without damaging the working relationship

5Field Control and Critical Situations

Checking and responding

  • Build a safety inspection checklist tailored to the site
  • Record findings and track actions through to close-out
  • Set out the response procedure in the event of an accident
  • Handle a serious and imminent danger reported on site

Who is it for

Works managers · site supervisors · client representatives and safety officers involved in construction or maintenance operations.

Prerequisites
