Description

Social Media Level 3: Measuring, Prioritising and Optimising Social Performance

Connect social activity to business results and allocate effort on the basis of data

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The editorial strategy is running, posts go out on schedule, yet leadership wants to know what it actually delivers. The figures available speak of reach and likes without ever touching revenue or inbound enquiries. Without usable measurement, decisions are taken on instinct.

This third level is devoted to performance over two days: selecting meaningful indicators, tracking conversions originating from social channels, running editorial tests, aligning organic content with paid campaigns and presenting results. It assumes an editorial strategy is already in place, as developed at the previous level.

Learning objectives

  • Select indicators linked to business objectives
  • Build a social dashboard that leadership can read
  • Track conversions originating from social channels
  • Run editorial tests and turn them into decisions
  • Align organic publishing with paid campaigns
  • Reallocate effort across channels, formats and content themes

What makes this programme different

Analyses are based on participants' own publishing history
An editorial testing protocol is defined and then applied to a real case
The session ends with a results presentation before a simulated committee

Programme

1Selecting Your Indicators

Moving beyond figures that decide nothing

  • Distinguish exposure, engagement and result indicators
  • Link each indicator to a specific objective
  • Identify flattering figures with no real bearing
  • Set internal progress benchmarks

2Measuring and Tracking

Seeing what happens after the click

  • Make use of native platform analytics
  • Track visits from social channels through to conversion
  • Build a shared monthly dashboard
  • Address measurement limits and blind spots

3Testing and Optimising

Deciding on evidence rather than opinion

  • Analyse publishing history to identify high-performing formats
  • Define a testing protocol based on a single variable
  • Adjust posting times, formats and content themes
  • Document the lessons learned for the team

4Prioritising and Defending Choices

Justifying the effort invested

  • Compare the return delivered by each channel
  • Align organic publishing with paid campaigns
  • Reallocate time and budget in line with results
  • Present results to a non-specialist leadership team
