Finance leaders are discovering that sustainability information must be traced as rigorously as the financial statements. The data already exists but sits scattered across human resources procurement and the operating sites, no one is clearly accountable for it, and the first collection attempts are run through spreadsheets with no audit trail.

These five virtual hours set out the method. Participants understand the architecture of sustainability reporting under international standards such as IFRS S1 and S2, run a double materiality assessment, identify the data points to be produced and organise collection with named owners and controls designed for third-party assurance.

  • Structure of international standards and the notion of cross-cutting disclosures
  • Respective roles of finance sustainability and operating functions
  • Production calendar and alignment with the accounting close

2Double materiality and reporting boundary

Selecting the topics to document

  • Method for identifying impacts risks and opportunities
  • Stakeholder consultation and sources used
  • Scoring of topics and formalisation of the judgements made
  • Definition of the reporting boundary including the value chain

3Data collection and assurance

Producing auditable information

  • Mapping of data points and existing sources
  • Appointment of contributors and reporting workflow
  • Consistency controls and treatment of estimates
  • Building the evidence file for the assurance provider

Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
