Description

The Management Control Pitch: Structure, Convince and Keep to Time

Getting a data-driven message across in a few minutes to time-pressed operational managers

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A management controller rarely has more than a few minutes to land an analysis. The deck runs through the figures line by line. The key message arrives last and the audience has disengaged well before the recommendation. The analytical work is sound but the expected decision does not follow.

This three-hour session teaches participants how to build a short pitch. It covers identifying the single message, structuring the delivery around a few ideas, choosing the figure that carries the point and handling objections without getting lost in detail. Each participant builds and then delivers their own pitch and receives feedback on the structure, the figure selected and the time kept.

Learning objectives

  • Express in a single sentence the message the audience must retain
  • Structure a few-minute intervention around three ideas
  • Select the figure that supports the message and set the others aside
  • Adapt your vocabulary to a non-financial audience
  • Answer an objection without losing the thread of your argument

What makes this programme different

Each participant delivers a pitch drawn from their own reporting pack
Feedback covers the structure, the figure selected and the time kept
A full version and a one-minute version are prepared on the same topic
