Description
Year-End Closing Entries: Preparing, Substantiating and Securing the Accounts
Master year-end closing work to reach the reporting date without delays or unsupported balances
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Intermediate
- Up to 6 participants
The closing date approaches and year-end work piles up into a handful of days. Suspense accounts have not been cleared and accrued supplier invoices are listed from memory. Provisions are rolled forward without review. The external auditor requests supporting documents that nobody has prepared, and the closing process spills over into the following financial year.
These two days bring structure to year-end work. You build a closing plan spread over time. You record closing entries account by account, each with its supporting evidence. You handle the cut-off of expenses and income to the correct period. Finally, you assemble a closing file that substantiates every balance.
Learning objectives
- Build a closing plan spread over the weeks preceding the reporting date
- Record closing entries relating to fixed assets and inventories
- Apply cut-off rules for expenses and income of the period
- Substantiate impairments and provisions recognised at the closing date
- Assemble a closing file that supports every balance
