Description

Project Management: Scoping, Planning and Steering Through to Project Closure

Move from a task list to a properly scoped project, planned and tracked through to closure

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Projects often start without anyone having written down what they are meant to deliver. The scope widens with each new request, deadlines slip without anyone knowing which task actually drives the completion date, and progress meetings turn into a simple round-table. The deliverable is eventually handed over, but no one can say where the time went.

This short-format programme provides the essential reference points. Participants learn to draft a project charter, break the work down into work packages, build a schedule with its milestones and float, and then run progress reviews that genuinely add value, including when the team works remotely.

Learning objectives

  • Draft a project charter setting out the scope and deliverables
  • Break the project down into work packages and estimate the effort required
  • Build a schedule showing milestones and the critical path
  • Identify project risks and define the associated mitigation measures
  • Run a progress review and report on project status

What makes this programme different

Each participant's own project is used as the working basis from scoping through to scheduling
Tracking tools are set up for a team spread across several sites
A one-page dashboard is built for the steering committee
