Description

Project Communication: Mapping Stakeholders, Informing and Convincing

Two days to build a project communication approach that secures stakeholder buy-in

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A project that is technically under control can still fail on communication: stakeholders learn of decisions too late, the messages circulated do not address their concerns, and opponents surface at the point of roll-out. The project manager then communicates under pressure and on the defensive.

These fourteen hours treat communication as a structure to be built: mapping stakeholders and their expectations, designing a communication plan differentiated by audience, using effective written and meeting formats, and handling difficult conversations. The programme is designed for practising project managers.

Learning objectives

  • Map stakeholders according to their influence and position
  • Build a communication plan differentiated by audience
  • Write a project message suited to the recipient's decision-making level
  • Facilitate a project meeting that produces decisions
  • Conduct a conversation with a stakeholder opposed to the project

What makes this programme different

The communication plan is built around each participant's real project
Difficult conversations are role-played and then reviewed collectively
The same announcement is adapted for a steering committee, a team and an end user
