In a coaching conversation, meaning is not carried by content alone. The way a person describes a situation, the words they select and what shows in their posture often carry more information than the story itself. Without observation tools, these signals are lost and the session keeps circling the same point.

Two days to embed techniques drawn from neuro-linguistic programming into your practice: precise observation, building rapport, working on language patterns and on mental representations. Each technique is practised in pairs and then placed back within the ethical boundaries of professional coaching.

  • Observe and calibrate the reactions of the person you are working with
  • Build a trusting relationship through rapport and synchronisation
  • Question imprecise language to recover the experience being described
  • Help the person represent a stuck situation differently
  • Identify the limits of use of these techniques in a coaching context

1Observing and Calibrating

Seeing what words do not say

  • Identify the visible signs associated with a given state
  • Distinguish observation from interpretation
  • Test your hypotheses through questioning
  • Adjust your pace to that of the person you are working with

2Building the Relationship

Establish rapport in order to lead

  • Practise synchronisation without mimicry
  • Recognise the signs that rapport is established
  • Guide the exchange towards a different pace
  • Restore the relationship after a breakdown

3Working on Language Patterns

Recovering the experience behind the words

  • Spot generalisations and omissions
  • Question imprecise formulations
  • Have an implicit criterion or comparison clarified
  • Avoid questioning that puts the person on the defensive

4Shifting a Representation

Opening up another point of view

  • Have the situation described from another position
  • Work on the images and words associated with the blockage
  • Anchor a resource identified by the person
  • Check what the person will do differently

Practical details

Before the programme
Online positioning questionnaire. Your development objectives are shared with the trainer, who tailors the practical case studies to your context.
Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
