Description

The Manager as Leader: Assess Your Six Core Capabilities and Move to Action

A one-day workshop to benchmark your leadership practices and select two capabilities to develop

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Experienced managers know the tools of management but rarely have a clear picture of their own leadership practices. They can run a meeting without knowing whether they are setting a direction the team can read. Feedback on how they lead is infrequent and seldom specific.

This is a one-day workshop built around six capabilities of the manager as leader. You benchmark yourself on each one using real situations and feedback from the group. You identify the two capabilities whose improvement would have the greatest effect on your team, then you practise those two capabilities.

Learning objectives

  • Benchmark your practices against six key capabilities of the manager as leader
  • Gather and make use of group feedback on your own situations
  • Select the two priority capabilities in light of your context
  • Practise these capabilities on situations brought by participants
  • Formalise a development plan with observable indicators

What makes this programme different

Self-assessment tested against feedback from peer managers on real situations
Workshop format with no lengthy lectures and most of the time spent producing work
A development plan narrowed to two capabilities and three dated actions
