Description

Quality and ISO 9001 Fundamentals: Understand, Position Yourself and Contribute

Understand the logic behind ISO 9001 and identify what it changes in practical terms in your daily work

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

ISO 9001 certification is often presented to teams as a constraint imposed by management or by a client: procedures to follow, records to complete and an auditor who visits once a year. Nobody explains what the whole thing is for, so forms are filled in after the event and the audit becomes a tidying-up exercise.

One day to give the approach real meaning: the overall logic of the standard, the useful vocabulary, the structuring requirements and the role expected of each person. This programme is designed for those who experience the system without steering it, process ownership being covered by a dedicated programme.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the overall logic of ISO 9001 and how it connects to day-to-day activity
  • Use quality vocabulary correctly in internal discussions
  • Identify the requirements that directly concern your own role
  • Position the main system documents and understand their purpose
  • Describe how an audit unfolds and the behaviour expected during the interview

What makes this programme different

Requirements are illustrated through situations drawn from participants' daily work
System documents are reviewed to separate those that add value from those that add clutter
An audit interview is role-played to remove the apprehension felt by auditees

Programme

1From Quality to the Standard

Understanding what a management system is for

  • Distinguish between expected, delivered and perceived quality
  • Identify the cost of defects and rework within the activity
  • Position ISO 9001 among the frameworks in use
  • Understand what certification covers and what it does not guarantee

2The Structuring Requirements

What the standard actually asks for

  • Understand the continuous improvement logic that underpins the text
  • Position the process approach and risk-based thinking
  • Identify the requirements relating to competence and resources
  • Identify the documents and records expected
  • Connect these requirements to practices already in place in the organisation

3Your Role Day to Day

Contributing without adding weight to your work

  • Identify what the approach expects from your position
  • Report a non-conformity and propose an improvement
  • Complete a record at the moment when it is meaningful
  • Behave as an auditee without fear or over-explanation
  • Know where to find the information you need
