Description

Job Advertisements: Defining the Need, Writing the Advert and Measuring Its Impact

Three hours to write adverts that attract the right profiles and discourage off-target applications

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

An advert copied straight from the job description attracts few candidates, and rarely the right ones. It lists duties and expected qualities without saying what the role offers or the context in which it is performed. The recruiter then receives a high volume of applications far removed from the actual need, and spends most of the time screening.

These 3 hours focus on writing the advert itself. Participants start from the real need expressed by the hiring manager, then select the elements that will make the difference for the target profile. The session also covers readability on mobile screens, non-discriminatory wording and the first indicators to monitor after publication.

Learning objectives

  • Translate a need expressed by a hiring manager into advert content
  • Structure a job advert around the expectations of the target profile
  • Write a title and opening lines that read well on job search platforms
  • Word requirements that are non-discriminatory and genuinely necessary for the role
  • Analyse early responses to a posting in order to refine the advert

What makes this programme different

Each participant rewrites a real advert from their own organisation during the session
Peer review of adverts by the group from the candidate's point of view
