Description

Communicating to Support Change: Inform, Listen and Engage

Building messages that hold up when the decisions announced are difficult to hear

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A transformation plan is often decided by the way it is communicated. A late announcement, a message that plays down the real impacts or a prolonged silence is enough to let rumour and mistrust take hold. Line managers then find themselves carrying messages they did not shape and cannot answer questions about.

Two days to build a communication framework that genuinely supports change: identifying audiences and their concerns, choosing the right moments and channels, writing messages that acknowledge the impacts and equipping internal relays. All outputs are produced on a real project brought by the participants.

Learning objectives

  • Map the audiences concerned and their concerns
  • Build a message that acknowledges the impacts of the change
  • Choose the channels and the rhythm of communication
  • Equip relay managers to carry the message
  • Address objections and rumours without amplifying them
  • Assess the effect of the communication actions undertaken

What makes this programme different

The communication plan is built on a real project brought by the participants
Difficult messages are drafted and then tested aloud in front of the group
A toolkit for relay managers is produced during the session
