Description
Prompt Engineering for Beginners: Writing, Refining and Trusting Your Requests
Write a clear request to a generative AI tool and obtain a usable result quickly
- 1 day — 7 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
The same question put to an artificial intelligence tool can produce either unusable text or a result you can work with straight away. The difference rarely comes from the tool and almost always from the way the request is written. Without clear guidance, beginners give up after a few disappointing attempts.
One day to learn how to build a complete request: setting out the context, the role expected, the task and the output format, providing examples, then following up to refine. Participants compare results obtained before and after rewording in real time, and build a library of standard requests for their recurring needs.
Learning objectives
- Explain in plain terms what a generative AI produces and where its limits lie
- Build a request specifying the context, the task and the expected format
- Follow up with a tool to correct an inadequate result
- Build a library of reusable standard requests
What makes this programme different
Programme
1What a Generative AI Actually Is
Understanding in order to ask better
- How text is generated and the limits that come with it
- Where incorrect or invented answers come from
- The role of the context provided in the quality obtained
- Data that must not be shared
2Building an Effective Request
Context, role, task and format
- The building blocks of a complete request
- Defining the audience and the expected tone
- Length and output format constraints
- Examples provided to steer the result
3Correcting and Reusing
From first draft to usable result
- Follow-up requests to refine an inadequate result
- Breaking a complex request down into steps
- Building a library of standard requests
- Systematic verification before use
Who is it for
Anyone starting out with generative artificial intelligence tools who wishes to obtain usable results from them.
