Description

Bank Regulatory Reporting: Producing, Controlling and Validating Regulatory Returns

Connecting banking accounting records to regulatory returns and IFRS reporting without breaking the audit trail

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Accounting teams in banking institutions produce regulatory returns whose breakdown logic differs from that of the chart of accounts. Attributes are missing, submissions are rejected, discrepancies between statistical returns and IFRS-based reporting reappear at every reporting date, and corrections are made under time pressure with no record of the adjustments applied.

This 7-hour programme establishes a joined-up reading of both reporting frameworks: the origin and purpose of each return, the feed from the accounting system, breakdown attributes, consistency controls and the reconciliation of aggregates. The aim is to produce returns that are defensible and fully traceable.

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish the respective purposes of statistical regulatory returns and IFRS-based supervisory reporting
  • Identify the breakdown attributes to be populated in the accounting system
  • Build the data chain from the trial balance through to the submitted returns
  • Put in place consistency controls within and across returns
  • Reconcile accounting aggregates with regulatory aggregates
  • Document adjustments in order to secure the audit trail

What makes this programme different

A loan portfolio is broken down attribute by attribute on a sample trial balance
A consistency control plan is built during the session and can be applied at the next reporting date
Recurring discrepancies between frameworks are analysed using real production anomalies
