Description

Banking Management Control: Measuring Margin, Allocating Costs and Reporting

Measure profitability by product, by client and by branch within a banking institution

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

In a bank, results cannot be read the way they are in an industrial company. Net interest margin depends on internal transfer rates whose construction is rarely explained, central overheads are allocated to the network using keys that are renegotiated every year, and the profitability of a client depends on the capital it consumes.

This short programme covers the full chain of banking management control: breakdown of net banking income, internal transfer pricing, overhead allocation, capital allocation and reporting by analysis axis. It also prepares you for the management dialogue and the objections it triggers.

Learning objectives

  • Break down net banking income by activity and by analysis axis
  • Explain how internal transfer rates are built and used
  • Allocate support function costs to operating entities
  • Allocate capital and calculate risk-adjusted profitability
  • Prepare and lead the management dialogue with the relevant departments

What makes this programme different

Calculation of a margin before and after applying the internal transfer rate
Construction of a branch income statement including overhead allocation
A management dialogue prepared with the network's most frequent objections
