Description

Cognitive Overload: Spotting the Signals, Lightening the Load and Refocusing

Three hours to recognise the signs of mental overload and lighten your working day

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Constant notifications. Back-to-back meetings. Several files open at once. The brain processes a continuous stream of information it never has time to consolidate. The symptoms are familiar: documents are read and re-read, decisions are postponed, and the day ends with the feeling of having worked hard without finishing anything.

This 3-hour module treats overload as a problem of attention management rather than willpower. Participants identify their own warning signals, then pinpoint the most costly sources of interruption. They put in place rules to protect their attention and offload their working memory onto a single capture system.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the personal signals that precede mental overload
  • Measure the interruptions experienced during a typical working day
  • Reduce the most costly sources of interruption in your environment
  • Offload your working memory onto a single external capture system
  • Group similar tasks together to limit context switching

What makes this programme different

An interruption log built from a real working day of the participant
Three attention-protection rules selected and configured during the session
A mental offloading system set up during the session
