Description

Double Materiality: Identifying, Assessing and Prioritising Sustainability Matters

A workshop to produce a double materiality assessment that stands up to stakeholder scrutiny

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Double materiality assessment has become the starting point of sustainability reporting. Many organisations approach it with a long list of topics drawn from a generic framework, disconnected from their value chain and from the risks that genuinely weigh on their business model. The outcome is difficult to defend.

This one-day workshop runs through the method from end to end: value chain mapping, identification of impacts on the environment and on people, assessment of financial risks and opportunities, evidence-based scoring and materiality threshold. Each participant makes progress on their own matrix.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the organisation's upstream and downstream value chain
  • Identify actual and potential impacts on the environment and on people
  • Assess the financial risks and opportunities attached to sustainability matters
  • Score topics using a documented and repeatable scale
  • Justify the threshold selected and the topics excluded from the assessment

What makes this programme different

Each participant leaves with a matrix under way and a documented scoring method
Stakeholders are genuinely taken into account through a live simulation exercise
Traceability of decisions is built to withstand auditor questioning
