Description

Excel — Essential Office Tools: Writing, Calculating and Presenting Day to Day

Three days to cover the three everyday desktop tools and stop working by approximation

  • 3 days — 21 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Documents are laid out with rows of spaces and tab stops. The tracking table is added up on a calculator before the total is typed back in. Presentations reuse the layout of an old file whose origin nobody remembers. Every task remains possible, but takes three times longer than it should.

These 21 hours cover the three tools found on every workstation. Participants structure a long document using styles, build a calculation table that updates itself and produce a presentation that can actually be read. Moving from one tool to the next is addressed explicitly, through the reuse of tables and charts.

Learning objectives

  • Structure a long document using styles and an automatic table of contents
  • Build a calculation table based on formulas and cell references
  • Represent a set of figures with an appropriate chart
  • Produce a readable presentation from a written outline
  • Reuse a table or chart across tools without losing the automatic update

What makes this programme different

The three tools worked on through a single business case used as a common thread
A long document fully rebuilt with styles rather than patched up by hand
Links between spreadsheet and presentation set up and then tested
