Description
High-Performance Maintenance: Improving Equipment Reliability and Reducing Downtime
Move beyond constant firefighting by tackling the failures that genuinely cost production
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Intermediate
- Up to 6 participants
A maintenance team can be highly skilled and still be overwhelmed: the same equipment keeps failing, interventions are carried out without any usable history, and nobody can say which stoppages weigh most heavily on production. Effort is then spread thinly across everything that breaks.
Two days of directly applicable tools: measuring equipment performance, using failure history to target costly breakdowns, running a root cause analysis through to a lasting solution, and deploying autonomous maintenance with production teams. The session focuses on the tools themselves rather than on how to organise a maintenance department.
Learning objectives
- Measure the performance of a piece of equipment and interpret the gaps
- Use failure history to target the right actions
- Run a root cause analysis through to elimination of the defect
- Build a preventive maintenance plan proportionate to the risk
- Introduce autonomous maintenance with equipment operators
What makes this programme different
Programme
1Measuring equipment performance
Indicators that point to action
- Break down equipment losses into downtime, speed and quality losses
- Calculate an overall performance rate and understand its limits
- Distinguish between reliability and maintainability indicators
- Present results to production without turning them into blame
2Targeting the failures that matter
Sort before acting
- Clean up and structure an intervention history
- Classify stoppages by equipment and by cause
- Identify repeat failures and high-cost failures
- Select the reliability improvement projects to launch
3Analysing and eliminating causes
Treat the defect, not the symptom
- Run a root cause analysis with the people involved
- Distinguish technical, human and organisational causes
- Verify the cause before deciding on the solution
- Document the modification and confirm its effectiveness
4Prevention and involving production
Reliability is won day to day
- Size the preventive plan according to equipment criticality
- Build preventive task sheets that can genuinely be executed
- Define the autonomous maintenance tasks entrusted to operators
- Organise inspection and cleaning as a means of early detection
Who is it for
Maintenance technicians and supervisors, together with production managers involved in equipment reliability improvement.
Prerequisites
Practical experience in industrial maintenance.
