Description
HSE Prevention Officer: Assessing, Engaging and Following Up
Three days to hold the prevention officer role across all three pillars: health, safety and environment
- 3 days — 21 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
The prevention officer inherits a broad remit and limited authority. They are expected to change established practices while production remains the stated priority. Reports of hazardous situations dry up when nothing comes back down the line. Environmental topics are added to safety topics with no additional time and no shared method.
These 21 hours cover the role in its three dimensions. Participants learn to assess risks starting from work as it is actually performed, to manage the waste and discharges generated by their site, to analyse an event and to keep prevention alive day to day. They build a prioritised action plan and the indicators needed to track it.
Learning objectives
- Identify hazards and assess risks through workstation observation
- Update the occupational risk assessment register
- Identify the environmental impacts of operations and organise their control
- Analyse an accident or hazardous situation down to root causes
