Description

Management Control in Industrial Companies: Deciding, Investing and Steering Margin

Move beyond cost calculation to appraise investments and steer plant performance

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Once standard costs are in place, the industrial management controller is expected to deliver on other ground. Should the company invest in a new line, produce in-house or outsource, accept an order at a reduced price? These decisions commit the production base well beyond the current month's result.

Two days at intermediate level for management controllers already familiar with cost calculation. The programme covers industrial performance management: margin build-up and break-even, investment and outsourcing decisions, inventory monitoring and reporting to executive management.

Learning objectives

  • Analyse industrial margin build-up by product and by production line
  • Calculate a break-even point and measure the sensitivity of results
  • Prepare the case for an industrial investment decision
  • Decide between in-house production and outsourcing
  • Manage inventory and industrial working capital requirements
  • Build the performance dashboard intended for executive management

What makes this programme different

Each decision is worked through on a complete industrial case file provided to participants
The make-or-buy decision is settled in session using the figures from the case
The dashboard produced is presented and then challenged from a site director's perspective
