Description

Managerial Credibility: Establishing Your Authority, Deciding and Holding Your Ground

Two days to build authority that rests on actions rather than on a job title or years of service

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

A manager can be appointed without being recognised. Decisions are reopened once the meeting is over. Some team members go straight to the next level up. The manager then hesitates between hardening their stance and seeking the team's approval. Both reflexes weaken them.

Two days to establish lasting credibility. You identify what your standing actually rests on, with your team and with your own management line. You practise deciding with incomplete information, explaining an unpopular choice and holding a contested position without becoming rigid.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the sources of credibility available within your own role
  • Analyse situations where your authority is challenged and what triggers them
  • Make a decision and explain it when not all the information is available
  • Hold a position contested by an individual team member or by the group
  • Stand behind a decision taken by senior management that you did not choose
  • Adjust your communication so that your actions and your announcements are aligned

What makes this programme different

Work on real situations of challenge experienced by the participants
Repeated practice in announcing an unpopular decision in front of the group
Peer feedback on each participant's presence, voice and wording
