Description

Process Communication Model in Practice: Reading Profiles, Adapting Your Channel and Defusing Tensions

Move from knowing the model to using it for real in the difficult exchanges of everyday working life

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

Knowing the personality types is not enough. In a tense meeting you fall back into your habitual channel and still struggle to find the right words. The model stays theoretical until it has been tested on real situations, with people who do not react the way the manual predicts.

Two days of intensive practice to read a profile within minutes, choose the communication channel that actually lands, recognise unmet psychological needs before stress sets in, and recover an exchange that is going off track. The format runs a sequence of short role-plays, each followed by immediate feedback.

Learning objectives

  • Read profile indicators within the first few minutes of an exchange
  • Choose and hold the communication channel suited to the other person
  • Identify the psychological needs to be met in yourself and in others
  • Recognise the first signs of stress before escalation
  • Recover an exchange that is going off track by changing channel

What makes this programme different

A sequence of short role-plays with immediate feedback on the channel used
Work on the genuinely difficult counterparts brought by participants
A personal practice plan for the weeks following the programme

Programme

1Reading Profiles Quickly

The clues of the first few minutes

  • Words, gestures, tone and expression: the clues available to you
  • Identifying the personality part active here and now
  • Distinguishing what relates to the base from what relates to the current phase
  • Forming a wrong hypothesis and correcting it mid-conversation

2Adapting Your Channel

Speaking in order to be heard

  • The communication channels and their effect on the other person
  • Deliberately stepping out of your preferred channel
  • Adapting the setting and the pace of the exchange
  • Channel mismatches that block a working relationship over the long term

3Meeting Psychological Needs

Prevention rather than repair

  • Psychological needs and how they show up at work
  • Spotting an unmet need in a team member
  • Meeting a need in a professional setting without overplaying it
  • Sustaining your own needs to remain fully available

4Managing Stress and Tension

Regaining control when an exchange goes off track

  • Behaviour under stress according to profile
  • Intervening at the first signs rather than after escalation
  • Breaking out of an exchange that keeps going round in circles
  • Re-establishing contact after a tense episode
