Description

Production Team Leader: Leading, Organising and Developing the Team

Moving from a technical role to leading a production team on the shop floor day to day

  • 3 days — 21 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

People become team leaders because they are technically strong. Overnight they must allocate work, hold the line on output targets, address the behaviour of a former colleague and enforce safety rules. Without management reference points, the day is spent troubleshooting machines rather than making the team work.

Three days to build the reflexes of frontline supervision: organising the production day, running team briefings, handling difficult conversations, enforcing safety rules and supporting operator skills development.

Learning objectives

  • Position your supervisory role between the team and management
  • Organise the production day and allocate work
  • Run a short and useful team briefing
  • Hold a corrective conversation while staying factual
  • Enforce safety and quality rules at the workstation
  • Organise multi-skilling and the induction of new joiners

What makes this programme different

The situations addressed come from participants' own shop floors rather than theoretical cases
Each participant practises running a start-of-shift briefing in front of the group
A personal development plan is written and scheduled before the end of the session
