Description

Project Dashboards: Selecting Indicators, Building and Sharing

Build a short tracking tool that reveals real variances and prompts decisions at the right time

  • 0.43 days — 3 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Many project dashboards serve only to reassure. They display self-reported progress percentages and colour codes that stay green until the day before the slippage becomes undeniable. Others accumulate so many indicators that no one reads them any more and the drift goes unnoticed.

Three hours online to select a small number of genuinely useful indicators and build the dashboard that goes with them. The session focuses on choosing indicators and reading them correctly. Automated dashboard production is covered in a separate programme in the catalogue.

Learning objectives

  • Select the schedule, cost and risk indicators suited to the project
  • Define the source and update frequency of each indicator
  • Build a dashboard that fits on a single page
  • Interpret a variance and formulate the decision it calls for
  • Adjust the level of detail to the intended audience

What makes this programme different

Indicators are selected from the participants' own live projects
A single-page dashboard is produced during the session
Alert rules are defined with thresholds specific to each project

Programme
