Running a project without proper preparation tends to produce the same difficulties: a scope that widens at every meeting, estimates given off the cuff, a team that is not dedicated to the work and a sponsor who only appears when a crisis hits. The project eventually ends, but nobody really knows what it cost.

Three days to work through the method from scoping to closure, applied to a project brought by each participant. The session focuses on the approach and remains independent of any planning software.

  • Lead a project team and a steering committee

Writing down what the project will and will not deliver

  • Formulate the need and the expected objectives

Moving from objectives to dated tasks

  • Break the project down into work packages and deliverables
  • Estimate effort and durations
  • Sequence tasks and identify the critical path
  • Build the schedule and the decision milestones

3Risk and Budget

Anticipating what can derail the project

  • Identify and rate project risks
  • Define responses and their owners
  • Build the budget and its contingency
  • Set up alert thresholds

4Steering and Team Leadership

Holding course with shared resources

  • Lead a project team without line authority
  • Run progress meetings and steering committees
  • Handle requests to change the scope
  • Report variances and propose trade-offs

5Closure and Knowledge Capture

Bringing the project to a genuine end

  • Organise acceptance testing and handover of deliverables
  • Transfer the product to the operations teams
  • Conduct the post-project review with the team
  • Capture lessons learned for future projects

Practical details

Before the programme
Online positioning questionnaire. Your development objectives are shared with the trainer, who tailors the practical case studies to your context.
Teaching methods
Theoretical input, workshops and practical case studies. Digital course materials and method sheets provided.
Assessment
Multiple-choice tests and role-play exercises. Assessment of learning at the start and end of the programme, with immediate and 60-day follow-up evaluations.
After the programme
One year of access to the e-learning platform. Self-assessment of the skills acquired and a 30-day follow-up session with your trainer.
