Description

Psychosocial Risks: Spotting the Signals, Regulating and Escalating in Time

Two days to hold your role as a manager when facing situations of distress at work within your team

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A team member withdraws and starts making unusual mistakes. Another stays late every evening and refuses any help. Short absences keep recurring across the department. The manager sees these signals but knows neither how to raise them nor how far to go without stepping outside the role.

Two days to act on what falls within your responsibility as a manager. You learn to identify individual and collective warning signals. You work on the risk factors that your work organisation can genuinely influence, such as workload or autonomy. You prepare sensitive conversations and identify the point at which the matter must be handed over.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the individual and collective signals that call for particular vigilance
  • Analyse the work organisation factors that a manager is able to influence
  • Conduct a conversation with a team member in difficulty without making a diagnosis
  • Regulate the workload and demands of an exposed role
  • Escalate a concern to the competent internal stakeholders within an appropriate framework

What makes this programme different

Signal-reading framework applied to real situations brought by participants
Filmed or observed practice of a conversation with a team member in difficulty
Clarification of the boundary between the manager's role and that of other stakeholders

Programme

1What Psychosocial Risks Actually Cover

Precise words for unclear situations

  • Distinction between occasional pressure, sustained strain and a situation of genuine distress
  • Factors linked to workload, autonomy, working relationships and recognition
  • Observable effects on the work itself and on how the team functions
  • The manager's place among the stakeholders involved in prevention

2Spotting the Signals Within Your Team

Observing without interpreting

  • Changes in behaviour, in working pace and in the quality of output
  • Collective signals such as resignations, recurring tensions or silence in meetings
  • The difference between an observed fact and an interpretation
  • Keeping a clear record of what has been observed

3Speaking With a Team Member in Difficulty

A conversation that is useful and sustainable

  • Choosing the moment, the setting and the opening wording
  • Describing facts without judgement or diagnosis
  • Listening to difficult disclosures and managing your own reactions
  • What can be offered and what must be referred elsewhere

4Acting on Work Organisation and Handing Over

From raising a concern to lasting action

  • Regulating workload, deadlines and conflicting priorities
  • Return to work after a long absence or a difficult event
  • Formulating a concern to the competent internal stakeholders
  • Following up over time on the measures decided
