Description

Speaking Remotely: Capturing Attention, Structuring and Convincing

Holding your audience on a video call when no gaze confirms that your message is landing

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

On a video call, the speaker's usual reference points disappear. Cameras stay switched off, reactions are silent and attention dissolves into the other windows open on screen. Many professionals who are perfectly at ease in a meeting room find themselves speaking into a void, with no way of knowing whether their message is getting through.

Two days to regain control: adjusting image and sound, working the voice for the screen, tightening the message into short sequences, prompting interaction at regular intervals. Each participant practises on camera and leaves with their own personal settings.

Learning objectives

  • Set up your image, framing and lighting for a remote presentation
  • Adapt your pace and intonation to the constraints of the screen
  • Structure a spoken message into short sequences suited to attention levels on video calls
  • Prompt regular interaction to check that your message is landing
  • Respond to a technical incident without losing the thread of your presentation

What makes this programme different

Every exercise is recorded under real video-conferencing conditions and reviewed immediately
Small group size so that each participant appears on camera several times
A personal checklist of image, sound and posture settings drawn up for each participant's own equipment

Programme

1The technical setting for a remote presentation

What the screen changes before you even speak

  • Framing, camera height and direction of gaze
  • Lighting on the face and a neutral background
  • Choosing and positioning the microphone
  • Checks to carry out in the minutes before going live

2Voice and body in front of the camera

Compensating for the absence of physical presence

  • Pace, articulation and pauses adapted to the screen
  • Varying intonation to sustain attention
  • Upper-body posture and gestures within the frame
  • Managing nerves without a visible audience

3A message designed for the screen

Structuring in short blocks and signposting clearly

  • Key message expressed in a single sentence
  • Breaking content into sequences of a few minutes
  • Signposting and transitions that help people follow
  • The role of screen sharing and the limits of visual aids

4Prompting reactions and maintaining connection

Interaction as an attention tool

  • Direct questions and addressing participants by name
  • Using chat, polls and reactions
  • Re-engaging the group when cameras stay switched off
  • Recovering after a dropout or a technical incident

Who is it for
