Description
The Mentor’s Role: Onboarding, Structuring Learning and Assessing Progress
Two days to structure the support given to a trainee or a new joiner within your team
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
Workplace mentoring often rests on goodwill alone. The mentor welcomes the new joiner between two urgent files, assigns whatever tasks happen to be available, and discovers several weeks later that the intended learning never took place. Follow-up meetings shrink into informal conversations, and the assessment arrives with nothing concrete to draw on.
These 14 hours give mentors the means to structure their support. Participants clarify their role and its boundaries, organise the onboarding, build a progression of tasks assigned over the months, and conduct follow-up meetings. They then prepare the assessment of learning and the exchanges with the training provider or academic institution.
Learning objectives
- Define the mentor's role and how it connects with line management
- Organise the onboarding and the first days of a new joiner
- Build a progression of assigned tasks over time
- Conduct a follow-up meeting grounded in observed facts
- Assess the mentee's learning and give usable feedback
