Description
Time Management for Managers: Setting Priorities, Delegating and Protecting Leadership Time
Recovering time to lead your team when day-to-day requests already fill the diary
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Foundation
- Up to 6 participants
Managers face two flows of work: their own deliverables and everything the team sends back to them. Requests arrive continuously, other people's urgencies become their own, and substantive work slips to the evening. By the end of the week, postponed one-to-ones and pending decisions have piled up.
Two days to arbitrate between individual output and the leadership role, delegate without creating dependency, manage incoming requests and protect time slots that genuinely hold. Each participant leaves with a reworked standard week and two delegations prepared.
Learning objectives
- Analyse how your time is actually split between individual output and team leadership
- Set priorities when several urgent requests arrive at once
- Delegate an activity by defining the level of autonomy and the follow-up
- Manage requests from the team without becoming unavailable
- Build a standard week that protects leadership time
What makes this programme different
Programme
1Where a Manager's Time Actually Goes
Measure before acting
- Distinguish delivery time, leadership time and decision time
- Analyse your diary over recent weeks
- Identify activities kept out of habit or comfort
- The cost of interruptions in a manager's day
2Setting Priorities
Deciding also what will not be done
- Sort by importance to the department rather than by who is asking
- Handle two competing urgencies coming from two directions
- Renegotiate a deadline with senior management
- Own and announce what is being dropped
3Delegating for Real
Transferring the activity and the decision
- Choose what to delegate and to whom
- Set the level of autonomy and the control points
- Conduct the delegation conversation
- Resist taking back control when the outcome differs from your own approach
4Protecting Your Time
Available without being constantly interrupted
- Organise team requests through dedicated slots and routines
- Respond to a request without solving the problem in the employee's place
- Team meetings: frequency, duration and usefulness
- Build a standard week that holds
