Description

Treasury Management Techniques: Forecasting, Investing and Negotiating Bank Terms

Cash is managed on value dates, not on the balance shown by the bank statement

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

The treasurer builds forecasts from information that arrives piecemeal from sales, accounting and procurement. Gaps between expected and actual collections distort the cash position and lead either to costly overdrafts or to idle balances. Bank terms are rarely compared, for want of a common calculation method.

These two days install the techniques of day-to-day treasury management. You build a rolling cash forecast, then learn value-date management, the arbitrage of short-term investments and the preparation of a costed negotiation with your banks.

Learning objectives

  • Build a rolling cash forecast from projected flows
  • Monitor the daily cash position on a value-date basis
  • Analyse bank terms and the real cost of short-term financing
  • Choose between investing surpluses and covering funding needs
  • Prepare a bank negotiation supported by figures
