Description

Work-Life Balance: Framing, Organising and Holding the Line

Regain control of the boundary between work and personal life without guilt and without cutting yourself off from your team

  • 1 day — 7 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Days overrun. Messages arrive in the evening, urgent requests eat into the weekend, and the mental load keeps running long after the laptop is closed. Many people simply grit their teeth and carry on, until fatigue settles in for good and starts to weigh on work as much as on private life.

One day to identify what genuinely unbalances your organisation, to put tenable boundaries into words and to negotiate them with the people you work with. You leave with a set of simple personal rules and a rebalancing plan to implement over the following weeks.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the situations in which work spills over into personal life
  • Analyse how your time is genuinely distributed across a typical week
  • Put clear boundaries into words regarding availability and response times
  • Negotiate those boundaries with your line manager and colleagues
  • Build a rebalancing plan monitored over several weeks

What makes this programme different

A quantified diagnosis of your typical week completed during the session
Ready-to-use wording to announce unavailability without over-explaining
A four-week rebalancing plan written before the end of the day

Programme

1Where Your Time Actually Goes

Run the diagnosis before changing anything

  • Map a typical week hour by hour
  • Distinguish workload from mental load
  • Spot the tipping points between the two spheres
  • Identify your own overflow triggers

2Setting Tenable Boundaries

Decide before you are overwhelmed

  • Define your availability windows and response rules
  • Choose what can be delegated, postponed or dropped
  • Decline a request without aggression and without over-justifying
  • Anticipate the reactions of colleagues and managers

3Making Balance Last

Moving from good intention to habit

  • Turn the end-of-day switch-off into a ritual
  • Protect genuine recovery time
  • Recognise signs of fatigue before exhaustion sets in
  • Adjust your rules after a few weeks of trial
