Description
Working Relationships: Read Your Counterpart, Adjust Your Register and Build Agreement
Getting your message across to very different profiles without reinventing your personality each time
- 2 days — 14 h
- In-person or virtual
- Intermediate
- Up to 6 participants
The same message produces opposite effects depending on who receives it. What reassures one person irritates another, a useful detail becomes excessive precision, and welcome directness comes across as bluntness. Many workplace tensions originate here rather than in the substance of the file, and they recur all the more when everyone stays within their usual operating mode.
Two days to identify your own relational style, recognise that of others, broaden your range of registers and work on the situations where relationships become strained: disagreement, a request declined, critical feedback to deliver.
Learning objectives
- Characterise your dominant relational style and its effects on others
- Identify a counterpart's operating mode from observable signs
- Adapt your communication register without abandoning your message
- Express disagreement or deliver critical feedback in a way that can be heard
- Restore the relationship after an exchange that went badly
