Description

Applied Neuroscience: Understanding Your Brain, Sustaining Attention and Learning

Two days to organise your work around how attention and memory actually function

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Foundation
  • Up to 6 participants

Working days are increasingly fragmented: notifications, back-to-back meetings, files picked up and put down ten times over. Many professionals notice that they retain less, decide more slowly and end the day tired without having progressed on what matters.

This 14-hour programme sets out what brain research contributes in practical terms to the organisation of work: the conditions for sustained attention, the cost of switching between tasks, how memorisation works, and the role of sleep and recovery. Each input is followed by immediate transfer to the participants' own working environment.

Learning objectives

  • Describe the conditions that allow sustained attention to be maintained
  • Assess the cost of interruptions across a typical working day
  • Organise tasks according to the alertness periods of the day
  • Apply spaced repetition methods to professional content
  • Introduce short recovery periods between two demanding activities
  • Establish a new working habit and monitor its implementation

What makes this programme different

A personal log of interruptions completed between the two days
The complete redesign of a typical day around alertness periods
Professional content genuinely memorised during the programme through spaced repetition

Programme

1Attention and Interruptions

The cost of fragmented work

  • How sustained attention works and where its limits lie
  • The cost of repeatedly switching from one task to another
  • Identifying internal and external interruptions
  • Setting up protected blocks of working time

2Memory and Learning

Retaining professional content over the long term

  • The stages of encoding and consolidation
  • The effect of spaced repetition on retention
  • Active recall compared with passive re-reading
  • Application to a procedure or a professional sales argument

3Mental Load and Recovery

Managing your energy across the day

  • Signals of cognitive saturation
  • Variations in alertness throughout the day
  • Micro-breaks and alternating demanding tasks with simple ones
  • The role of sleep in consolidating what has been learned

4Establishing New Habits

From knowledge to real change

  • How a habit is formed
  • Choosing a trigger and a replacement behaviour
  • Anticipating situations of relapse
  • Monitoring implementation over several weeks

Who is it for

Employees and managers facing a high mental workload as well as anyone wishing to improve their concentration and learning.
