Description

Commercial General Liability Insurance: Classifying Exposures, Applying Cover and Settling Claims

Distinguish the liabilities a company may incur and mobilise the right cover at the right moment

  • 2 days — 14 h
  • In-person or virtual
  • Intermediate
  • Up to 6 participants

A customer complains about a product delivered two years earlier, a subcontractor damages a third party's site, a professional service causes purely financial loss. Each situation points to a different section of cover, and the answer depends as much on how the liability is classified as on the date used to trigger the policy.

Two days devoted exclusively to corporate liability insurance: classifying the triggering event, locating the applicable cover, applying trigger rules and handling the claim through to settlement. Property damage covers are addressed in a separate module.

Learning objectives

  • Classify the liability incurred by a company in a given situation
  • Distinguish general operations liability from post-delivery and completed operations liability
  • Identify the covers applicable to financial and intangible loss
  • Apply the rules governing how cover is triggered
  • Handle a claim and organise recovery action

What makes this programme different

Each section of cover is illustrated by a real anonymised claim to be classified
The boundaries between covers are explored through deliberately ambiguous cases
The group builds a decision tree for classifying liability exposures
